Handling the Holidays
Handling the Holidays The holiday book that came first, and through four revisions has continued to help bereaved people make it through those special days.

Handling the Holidays has always been a collection of life stories, helpful suggestions, coping ideas and poetry written by those who have taken grief’s journey and survived to tell about it.

Bruce Conley published the first edition of Handling the Holidays in 1977. Published in Chuck Conley’s print shop, Thum Printing, "Handling the Holidays" was just a little book with a red cover. The stories, poetry and helpful suggestions came from personal reflections shared by grieving parents, spouses, siblings and friends. Twenty-three years later, and tens of thousands of copies later, your response to our little booklet has inspired this sixty-eight page, fourth edition. We have tried to broaden the scope of "Handling the Holidays" to include not only Christmas, Hannukah, Thanksgiving and other major holidays, but also those "special days" that the world around you may not recognize as painful or meaningful for you.

This beloved little booklet still includes C.O.P.E., our original four letters of guidance, the Holiday Planner and the Griever’s Bill of Rights, as well as "Silent Night", written by Bruce Conley and our most requested reprint. In addition this edition introduces, "DaySavers", personal little suggestions that have "saved the day" for someone else. They were created to help you quickly look for ways to "get through" a particularly difficult day or situation.

Though "Handling the Holidays" was originally written to help grieving people manage the Christmas holidays, today it is so much more. Whatever your loss, your beliefs, your age or your gender, "Handling the Holidays" has something within it’s pages that will ease your pain.
