Most professionals, working in fields concerned with children and death, strongly recommend that the activities, ceremonies and emotions at the time of a death in the family, be explained to children and that they be involved in ways appropriate to them.

But, where do you begin? How do you break the ice with a child to gain his/her trust? What can you do to help the child form a healthy perspective on the special loss that he/she faces?

Butterflies, Grandpa & Me
Butterflies, Grandpa & Me A story in black and white...that teaches in color.

Written by Bruce Conley, this is a bright colored, 24 page paperback storybook with easy to read print and interesting line drawings to color. Though this story chronicles little Richie’s feelings and experiences when his grandpa dies, it is easily adapted to other deaths and circumstances. It includes appendices with a study guide for parents/teachers, as well as suggested reading and activities. A book to be read with hugs, or one a child can read themselves.
